it's a good night

Thanks, to my friend who gave me a reason to pull out my old pictures and look through them. Not only was reminiscing about my wedding awesome (especially because Neal wasn't here to make fun of me - is that awful??), but I found this picture of me and my grandpa. I think it's the last picture I have with him. It must've been taken around Christmas time in 2004 (judging by the hair. . . not my best hair cut, but what do you do?)

It was just really nice to see my grandpa today. I think about him a lot. I'm glad I took the time to go visit him when I was in town for Christmas that year. I'm excited for the time when I'll get to see him again and Neal and Gaius will be able to meet him too. (For a moment, I thought about naming my son after him, but couldn't bear to name my son Harry Hamilton. I just couldn't do that to him. I know what you're thinking - I still gave him a weird name that he'll have to pronounce and spell at least twice to every person he meets. But it's an awesome name.)

I used to think my grandpa was the prophet when I was little. I guess I figured that either he was the only old person in the world, or that if you were old, you were a prophet. Who knows?

I just wanted to share. And hey - this post isn't even about Gaius. :) (though he was mentioned - sorry.) I know I'm a lame blogger who only blogs about her kid. But he's the most interesting thing I have in my life. Or I have no appreciation for the simple things in life, and don't take time to notice the oddities outside my local Wal-Mart. It's hard to tell. So thanks for reading my blog (you know who you 9 readers are.)

Until I actually get around to blogging . . .

I thought I would just share this with all of you. It's my son's most charming face. Everyone other than Neal and I think it's funny/adorable/awesome. It's always accompanied by huffing and puffing. Usually followed or preceded by squawking and squealing.

NOT my favorite.

But fun to see in a picture.

one year

I made it. And tonight I told my baby that we probably won't be nursing anymore. I thought I'd been looking forward to this for . . . 9 or 10 months, but it's really sad to say goodbye. I think mostly because that was the only time in the whole day my baby would be still and just cuddle with me. I don't know what bedtime will be like tomorrow. I've so looked forward to the day when I could leave that task to Neal, or *gasp* a babysitter. Now, I'm not so sure. It's always been something that has been just mine. Not selfishly - although, now I'm feeling a bit selfish. I don't want to share him. I want him to be my baby and need me forever.

I hate to use the phrase "I can't believe my baby is one," because everyone has used it, and I'm personally sick of it, but it's true. He really did his growing up 3 months ago when he decided to start walking. But when I look at him, the only "baby" left in him is that hair. (I'm totally wussing out, by the way, and who knows when I'll be able to bring myself to have it cut.) I will, of course, have to keep calling him "baby" because I insist on being in denial.

His birthday parties will be this next week, so we'll post cake pictures later. Thanks to my sister for letting us come to her house for his real birthday (which I very nearly forgot).

Happy (soon) birthday

I will be in Idaho on Gaius' birthday (with him, of course) so I won't be able to post anything. (Like it matters to him!)

So, happy soon birthday, Baby!

*I just want to add that on my computer alone I have 1635 pictures of my baby. That's an average of 4.5 pictures for every day he's been alive. That number would be even more frightening if I knew how many pictures my parents have of him.

Dear Husband,

I just KNOW that you will check my blog while you're gone. You see, it's either one of two things: either you will miss me so much it aches, or you will be bored out of your mind with your new roommate. All I know is that I'm positive I'm a better roommate than whoever you're with now.

In the time you would've normally just been at work today, I've already cleaned the kitchen (3 times! Thank you, Gaius.), vacuumed the whole basement, and washed, folded, and ironed a week's worth of laundry. It really makes you wonder what I usually do all day, huh?

This evening we went upstairs to visit your folks, since I figured I'll be lonely soon and ought to visit with people while I've got them, only to discover they weren't here. So I let Gaius little-man around the organ loft for half an hour. He almost went down the stairs. Then he remembered that it is more exciting upstairs and gave up.

I found the most interesting book about manners, "What Do You Say, Dear?" copyright 1958 (and retailed for $0.45 in 1969). Surprisingly, it's not out of print! I think we should buy a copy so Gaius can learn important lessons such as:

You are a cowboy riding around the range.
Suddenly Bad-Nose Bill comes up behind
you with a gun. he says, "Would you like
me to shoot a hole in your head?"

What do you say, dear?

No, thank you.

I felt very educated after reading it. And speaking of things I learned today ... I learned that mac 'n cheese is SO much better made with butter than with margarine. Gaius agrees.

I think that's all I had to tell you. So now I will sit and wait for you to call so I know you are safe. Then I will tell you all of this on the phone.

Love, Wife

*Dear everyone else,
I'm home alone. It's lonely. I haven't been home alone in years. So forgive my blogging. I've got nothing better to do than fill up your Google Reader with my ramblings.
Thanks for reading.

It's really time to cut the boy's hair, isn't it?

more spring awesomeness.

(Awesomeness IS a word. I said so.)

So, what do you get for spring bulk waste pick up day? I snagged a couple of kiddie cars from the neighbor's pile. (Luckily, I was invited to a luncheon a few months ago where I actually met and spoke to this neighbor, so it wasn't quite so awkward stealing her trash.)

About a week later I finally saw the neighbor outside and went over to thank her for the cars I took, and she was so thrilled that I wanted her trash she came over two days later to give me a couple packs of diapers, soccer cleats, and a double stroller.

That's right, I am now the proud owner of a double stroller. Now if only I had a use for such a thing...

(I was later informed by my Mother-in-Law, that taking other people's trash is just not something that is allowed in Sandy City. Oh, yes. Sandy IS that upper class.)
